About North Ottawa Dunes

This property offers 593 acres of wooded dunes located just off the Lake Michigan shoreline and uniquely situated between state, county and city parks. Ten miles of hiking trails link North Ottawa Dunes to North Beach Park and PJ Hoffmaster State Park. The property features tremendous topography with an elevation change of 185 feet in the parabolic dune formations. Eight distinct dunes in the rugged landscape exceed 750 feet in height for spectacular, scenic views of the surroundings.

  • Paved parking lot with accessible spaces
  • Barrier-free walkways connecting to picnic tables, the donor recognition plaza, trailhead sign, and nearby restroom
  • Two barrier-free picnic table pads along accessible route

Motor Vehicle Permit Not Required

There are no entry or launch fees.

Dogs Allowed (on leash)

Dogs are required to be leashed (10’ max) and under control at all times and are not permitted in buildings, restrooms, picnic shelters, off-trail, on stairs, or as posted. Owners must clean up after their pet and dispose of waste in a trash receptacle. Service dogs for persons with disabilities are permitted in all areas at any time.
