E-Filing
58th District Court mandates all litigants in civil case types e-file. However, we understand that this might be difficult if you do not have access to the internet, a scanner, or if your documents are not downloaded on your computer. Here are a few tips if you do have internet access.
- Download the form you are looking to file from the SCAO website.
- Once you download the form, open the form and fill in with your case information. You will need to electronically sign this document by inputting /S/ and your typed out name.
- Re-save this document once all information is filled in.
- Sign onto Mifile.
- File your document with the court through the MiFILE portal. Attached are MiFILE Filing Instructions that might help with this endeavor, if you are uncertain how to navigate MiFILE.
If you are unable to download the appropriate form you wish to use or you are unable to scan the document you have already obtained, please download the following form MC100 – request for exemption. Please mail in your documents with this form and payment, if one is required, and once the Judge reviews and signs the order, the clerk’s office will file your documents. If the Judge denies your request for any reason, we will contact you to let you know that your paperwork was not filed and that you have to e-file.
If the order is signed and you are exempted from e-filing, you will be responsible for serving these documents on the other party in the case.
Notice
Civil Process Service
Effective immediately, all documents (including case initiation documents) required to be served upon the defendant will be returned to the plaintiff for proper service through the MiFILE system.
Service of process in civil actions may be served by an authorized court officer (see contact list below) or by any legally competent adult who is not a party or an officer of a corporate party to the case. Please see MCR 2.103 – Processes: Who May Serve for further information.
It is solely plaintiff’s responsibility to arrange for and provide proper paperwork to the service provider as well as pay any fees, if applicable. EXCEPTION: If you are filing an Application and Order of Eviction and/or any Writ requiring seizure of property, proper service of these documents will be arranged by 58th District Court clerks.

What is E-Filing?
Michigan’s MiFILE solution is a simple web-based program that does not require any additional equipment or software on behalf of the filer and provides for a seamless integration with the Courts’ existing imaging and case management systems. This program offers our constituents an avenue to access the courthouse beyond traditional business hours in a user-friendly manner. Filers can directly upload or drag documents from their desktops to the MiFILE system to file with the Court, serve other parties electronically, manage all previously submitted electronic filings, manage favorites and easily access their current caseload, and receive notifications as to when the documents are received by the court, when payment of a transaction occurs, when a filing is marked as filed and when a filing is marked as rejected.
User Fees
MiFILE manages all billing transactions and account reconciliation with the Court. A filing may have one or more fees required for processing by the court. Please note these fees will be applied at time of filing and will adequately indicate the line item entry for each uploaded document and the fee that will be charged.
The court does allow you to submit a fee waiver request to waive the fees associated with the case, but this may or may not be denied by the Judge. If the fee waiver is denied you will receive notification as to this denial and you will have to resubmit all documents with payment before the court will file these documents.
In addition, a credit card user fee is also assessed at time of filing if a fee has been charged. This fee is a fixed percentage at 3% and is used to cover the credit card processing fee.
CREDIT CARD PROCESSING FEES ARE NONREFUNDABLE, EVEN IF THE FILING IS NOT ACCEPTED. PLEASE VERIFY YOU ARE FILING WITH THE CORRECT 58TH DISTRICT COURT LOCATION.
How to Register with MiFile
Click here to E-file with MiFILE. You will be required to create a login profile and enter into an electronic User Agreement with the vendor of the software upon initial log in.
Each attorney will have to create an account but the site will allow you to connect to other users. Connections will grant you rights to submit filings on behalf of another person or attorney and will allow you to view their filing history. This is helpful for law firms or organizations so as all support staff and attorneys can file on behalf of each other.
There are various training resources, including FAQs and tutorials, located within MiFILE itself. The Vendor has also developed a MiFILE User Guide.
