What Is a Stand Down?

The term “Stand Down” originated during times of war, when combat units were withdrawn from battlefields to rest and recover in a safe space. Today, Stand Downs are community-based events focused on helping homeless and at-risk veterans by providing them with immediate access to vital services—all in one location.
